Lexia® LETRS® For Early Childhood Educators Outcomes by Unit

Experts agree the early childhood years are critical for building the foundations young children need for success in school and life. 

Dr. Louisa Moats and Dr. Lucy Hart Paulson designed Lexia® LETRS® for Early Childhood Educators with this in mind, knowing these teachers and providers need the same level of professional learning as K–3 educators to effectively teach the foundation of literacy.

• Unit 1: Early Literacy Foundations
Participants learn about historical events and research that influenced childhood education; policies and standards that have affected early childhood educational approaches; and the role of assessment in early childhood education.

• Unit 2: Oral Language Connections
Participants learn about the structures of oral languages; the importance of phonology to oral language development; and the general milestones of phonological development.

• Unit 3: Phonological “PH”oundations
Participants discover the component skills of phonological processing and phonological representation along with their relationships to literacy development.

• Unit 4: Print Knowledge ABC to XYZ
Participants discover the important print awareness concepts for young children; how alphabet knowledge contributes to children’s learning; and the development of alphabet learning and relate it to instruction.
